Keep cool on a sunny day with some crafty ice cream making

THE THINGS THAT YOU’LL NEED:

Printed template
Sheet of A4 paper - white or coloured
Cardboard
Scissors
Colouring things - crayons, pastels, pencils and pens
PVA glue
Glue spreader or brush
Chopped up shredded coloured papers
Sequins

HOW TO MAKE AN ICE CREAM THAT NEVER EVER MELTS:

  • Print out the ice cream template on to white or coloured paper
  • Cut out the ice cream cone, six scoops of ice cream and a cherry for the top
  • Use the cone shape as a template to draw around onto a piece of cardboard
  • Cut out your cardboard cone
  • Use crayons or pencils to decorate your cardboard cone. You could draw zig zag lines or diagonal crossed lines to make it look just like a waffle cornet. Sometimes rubbing the crayon firmly across the cardboard picks up the texture and can give your cone a waffley look
  • Colour in your scoops of ice cream and use collaged bits of papers to add colour to turn them into your favourite flavours... lots of pink scribbles for raspberry ripple, bright green with brown specks of paper for mint choc chip, yum
  • Use the glue to stick your scoops onto the circular part at the top of your cardboard ice cream cone
  • Colour your cherry a juicy bright red and stick it to the top. If you fancy a chocolate flake, colour a strip of paper brown and add that to your ice cream too
  • For the finishing touch we need some sprinkles! Paste the top of your ice cream with some PVA glue and throw on a tasty looking mixture of chopped up shredded papers and sequins. The PVA will turn clear and shiny as it dries

If you’re playing ice cream vans you might sell out quickly in the summer and need to make some more! Let your imagination run wild and have some giggles inventing your own funny flavours… banana and beans, pineapple and peas?!
